triple check the connector for the VTEC pressure switch for subtle signs of corrosion (white or green discoloration) that could be intermittently affecting the connection. Or 2) if the engine oil pressure is good and the VTEC oil pressure is also good - then by default, the VTEC oil pressure switch must be bad. The solenoid is opens and allows oil to go to the rocker arms, therefore 1) if the engine oil pressure is good and the VTEC oil pressure is bad - then you have either a solenoid not opening correctly or the gasket screen is are clogged up Preventing the proper oil pressure getting to the rocker arms. This is where measuring the VTEC oil pressure can be helpful. If you’re wiring is good and your engine oil pressure is good then your fault is going to be in the VTEC spool assembly. (I think spec is 7psi at idle and 44psi at 3000 rpm on a engine at operating temperature ) You’re supposed to measure it at idle and at 3000 rpm. One guy (Locksmith) on that first P2646 thread I linked showed how he had modified an adapter to fit for under $10.Ībove the oil filter and below the VTEC spool assembly is the engine oil pressure switch. I never found an adapter for the VTEC oil pressure switch because it is an M10-1.25 thread, except from Honda, and it priced out to a crazy $450. Most of the commercially made oil pressure gauges will have adapters for the engine oil pressure switch, which is 1/8-28 BSPT thread. One is at the engine oil pressure switch, and the other is at the VTEC oil pressure switch. These two screens keep the oil clean going to the VTC actuator."įor P2646, there are two places where you can check oil pressure, and they check different things. Carefully removing it will reveal the screen and that can be cleaned with brake cleaner as well or replaced. It is a small squarish aluminum cap with 2 10mm bolts. The second screen is on the passenger front of the cylinder head above the alternator. Once the bolt is out the sensor will pull out with some force and rocking back and forth. It has along 10mm bolt that is hard to see because it's sunk into the timing cover.
